STATEN ISLAND, NY — Colin Jost can go all night for a hot hostess like Sofia Vergara.

He’s hard at it by noon Monday and works till midnight. On Tuesday, he’s back to the grind around 11 a.m. and probably doesn’t let up until his head hits the pillow at his Upper West Side apartment the next day at 11 p.m. Read more…

“Staten Island Comedy Festival cracks up for a cause June 19-25″
by Rob Bailey, SILive.com

STATEN ISLAND, NY — Four years ago, “Soul” Joel Richardson gave birth to the grassroots laugh-in that’s grown into the Staten Island Comedy Festival, featuring multiple national headliners at numerous venues.

Well, you’ve come a long way, baby.

Proof: In honor of the fourth-annual fest, Assemblyman Michael Cusick and borough council members have declared June 19-25 “Comedy Week on Staten Island.”

“The proclamation is a great honor for me and Soul Joel Productions,” says Richardson. “We have worked hard to make a successful event for Staten Island. I can’t tell you how great it feels to be recognized for our efforts.”

ABOUT THE STATEN ISLAND COMEDY FESTIVAL:

In August 2008, Soul Joel Productions hosted the 1st Annual Staten Island Comedy Festival that brought four nights of comedy to four different parts of the island. The first three nights brought laughter to Stapleton, Westerleigh, and Great Kills. The excitement grew as Staten Islanders anticipated Thursday night’s Grande Finale at the historic 1,800-seat St. George Theatre. People from all over the Tri-State Area came out to enjoy the night of laughter and fun.

Soul Joel Productions (SJP) raised the bar for 2009. In late June, as schools neared conclusion, SJP offered six nights of entertainment to kick off the summer. Monday and Tuesday played host to the “Big Stage Competition” which saw ten online winners compete for two spots on The Grand Finale.  The festival traveled to The Bistro in New Dorp on Wednesday for the exciting showcase of SJP talent as Yannis Pappas and Maddog Mattern hit the stage.  On Thursday, SJP added a night of improv at the Muddy Cup as local talent spontaneously joked around with the crowd.  Friday’s show featured Last Comic Standing co-headliners Pete Dominick and Joe DeVito at the luxurious Lorenzo’s Restaurant, Bar & Cabaret at the Hilton Garden Inn.

The 2nd Annual Staten Island Comedy Festival concluded the week of laughter with “The Grand Finale” at the Music Hall at Snug Harbor on Saturday, June 27th.  The event began with the heartfelt musical talent of Paul Strayfer, continued with “Big Stage Competition” winners Bryan Berner and Nanci Richards, and ended with the hilarious jokes of Last Comic Standing Finalist Gary Gulman. The festival helped brand Staten Island as one of the newest hotbeds for comedy and had people buzzing about the island for months to come.

With comedy shows popping up all over the island, Soul Joel Productions looked to showcase this talent and exploit these fantastic venues in their 3rd Annual Staten Island Comedy Festival.  SJP added one more night to make it a full week of action packed comedy.

The 2010 Staten Island Comedy Festival venues included some of the latest hotspots for comedy on the island.  Each place had its own sense of humor and an atmosphere to play along with it.

Last year, Soul Joel Productions took to the road in search of rising stars to diversify the list of talent on the bill. Hosting comedy competitions in Philadelphia and Baltimore, SJP selected the best of the best from each city and featured them on the 4th Annual Staten Island Comedy Festival. In addition, SJP added a one of the most respected non-profit organizations on Staten Island as a beneficiary to the festival, Lifestyles for the Disabled (www.lfdsi.org), an organization that strives to provide the intellectually disabled with realistic work settings and experiences within the Staten Island community. The festival featured both new and old venues including The Staaten, Full Cup, Gusto Restaurant, The Veranda at Silver Lake Golf Course, Killmeyer’s Old Bavarian Inn, and The Looney Bin Comedy Club.
